Every stain on this page is applied to a compression-moulded fiberglass slab from Richerson or Mennie. The skins are cast from real oak, mahogany or teak boards, so the stain sinks into the grain the same way it would on a wood door — you get the depth and movement of a stained-wood entry without the warping, cracking, swelling or annual refinishing.

Red and buff brick across the GTA pairs naturally with Medium Oak, Chestnut and Mahogany. Light siding, stucco and limestone work with Dark Walnut, Espresso and Weathered Grey. North-facing entries and covered porches read 1–2 shades darker than the chip — go lighter than you think. South- and west-facing doors read lighter — go a shade darker.

Wash twice a year with mild soap and water. Check the weather stripping each spring. The factory UV-protected finish does not need annual sanding, re-staining or varnishing — the only maintenance a fiberglass stain needs is the wash itself. South- and west-facing doors fully exposed to sun may want a clear-coat refresh after 7–10 years; we'll flag your exposure at the in-home visit.

During an in-home visit, our advisor can bring physical stain chips and matching slab pieces to help you choose the right finish. We don't ship stain chips by mail — colour reads differently under store and indoor light, and we want you to see the finish on real fiberglass woodgrain before you decide.
Stains are factory-applied to woodgrain-textured fiberglass slabs (Richerson or Mennie) under controlled conditions, so the finished door matches the sample chip within a normal wood-stain tolerance. Slight variation can occur because fiberglass grain depth differs from the chip, and natural light changes the read across the day. For exact matches to an existing door, ask for our Custom Match service — we colour-match from a physical sample you provide.
Standard stained Richerson and Mennie fiberglass doors typically run 4–6 weeks from approved measure to installation. Custom Match stains, oversized slabs, sidelites, transoms, or specialty doorglass can extend the timeline to 6–8 weeks. We confirm the exact ETA in writing on your quote and schedule installation only after the door is built and inspected at our facility.
Wash the door twice a year (spring and fall) with mild soap and water, dry it, and inspect the weather stripping and threshold seal. The factory-applied stain is UV-protected and rated for Canadian climate — there is no annual re-sanding or re-staining like a real wood door. South- and west-facing doors with no porch overhang may benefit from a light clear-coat refresh every 7–10 years; we'll flag this at your consultation if your exposure warrants it.
Trust Build stains use UV-inhibited finishes formulated for exterior fiberglass, so fade is minimal in normal Ontario exposure. Doors fully exposed to direct afternoon sun (typically west- or south-west-facing with no porch cover) may show slight lightening on the darkest stains (Espresso, Black Walnut, Mahogany) over 10+ years. A storm door or covered entry effectively eliminates this.
The stain finish is covered under Trust Build's lifetime transferable warranty on the door, hardware and our workmanship — the same coverage as the slab itself. Manufacturer coverage from Richerson and Mennie also applies to the factory finish against peeling, cracking and delamination, and against thermal bow on the slab. If you sell the home, the warranty transfers to the new owner.
Yes. Fiberglass woodgrain slabs can be sanded lightly and re-stained or painted by a qualified refinisher. Most homeowners never do — but it's an option that doesn't exist on a steel door. If you're unsure between two stains, choose the lighter one; going darker later is straightforward, going lighter is not.
