Glass & Security

Two full doors of glass — twice the spec to get right

French (or garden) doors are two operating door slabs, each predominantly glass. That's effectively twice the glass area of a standard entry door, which means the glass package drives almost the entire thermal and security performance of the opening.

Trust Build's standard French-door spec is triple-pane Cardinal IG with Low-E 272 across both slabs, tempered safety glass throughout (code-required on doors this size), and a laminated inner pane on both slabs for forced-entry resistance. The active and inactive door each get an interior multi-point lock that engages into the head and sill of the frame.

Triple pane + Low-E 272 + tempered

Standard French-door spec on both slabs. Energy Star certified across Canadian zones.

Laminated security glass (both slabs)

Strongly recommended — French doors are large glass targets and laminated is the right answer.

Simulated divided light (SDL)

Period-correct grilles applied to a single triple-pane Cardinal IG unit underneath — no thermal penalty.

Impact-resistant laminated

For rural properties or street-facing French doors where storm and security risk are both factors.

Security Window Film: Existing French doors are excellent retrofit candidates for Security Window Film — the large continuous glass area is exactly where film delivers its highest forced-entry protection. Learn more about Security Film →

Not when spec'd correctly. A modern Trust Build French door with multi-point locks on both slabs, tempered glass and a laminated inner pane is at least as secure as a sliding patio door — sometimes more so, because the active/inactive lock geometry resists prying.
Yes. Our simulated divided light (SDL) system applies authentic-looking muntin bars to both sides of a single Cardinal IG unit. The result reads as a period-correct French door from the street, with full modern thermal and security performance underneath.
