Glass & Security

The biggest piece of glass on your home

A sliding patio door is the largest single glass opening in a typical Ontario house — and it's at grade, hidden from the street, often shielded by a deck or fence. From a security and energy perspective it deserves more attention than almost any other opening on the home. Trust Build spec's patio doors with that in mind.

Our standard patio-door glass is a triple-pane Cardinal IG package with Low-E 272 and argon, tempered safety glass (code-required), and a laminated inner pane on the operating panel for forced-entry resistance. The fixed panel gets the same package for visual continuity. The result is a patio door that's both noticeably warmer in winter and one of the hardest residential glass openings to defeat from the yard side.

Triple pane + Low-E 272 + tempered

Standard patio-door spec. Energy Star certified. Tempered glass is code-required on patio openings.

Laminated operating panel

Strongly recommended — defeats break-and-reach attacks on the patio door latch, which is the most common patio-door entry method.

Triple pane + Low-E 366

For south-facing patio doors that overheat the adjacent room in summer.

Impact-resistant laminated assembly

Highest security tier — common on rural properties and ground-floor patio doors on secondary suites.

Security Window Film: If your patio door isn't being replaced this season, Security Window Film on the existing glass is the single highest-impact security upgrade you can make to your home — patio glass is the most common ground-floor forced-entry point. Learn more about Security Film →

For most Ontario homes, yes. It's a single large pane at grade, usually hidden from the street by a deck or fence, and the latch sits at chest height — an intruder who breaks the glass can reach the latch directly. Laminated security glass or Security Window Film closes that vulnerability.
Yes. A triple-pane Cardinal IG with a laminated inner pane, paired with our reinforced auxiliary lock, resists forced entry as effectively as a steel entry door. We can also spec an impact-resistant laminated assembly for the highest security tier.
