The original double doors on this North York home were light-stained wood with ornate wrought-iron scrollwork glass inserts, a traditional look that had aged out of step with the rest of the property. The replacement goes in the opposite direction entirely: steel double doors finished in Gentek's antique brown, the same colour carried through on both the exterior and interior faces, with seven diagonal tapered metal accents running down each door in a clean vertical line.
Why matching the interior finish to the exterior matters more on a double door
A single entry door with a mismatched interior finish is noticeable. A double door with two full-height panels makes any inside-outside colour mismatch twice as obvious, since both leaves are visible from both sides at once. Finishing this door in the same antique brown inside and out means the design reads as one deliberate choice from every angle, not an exterior upgrade with an afterthought interior.
The design: diagonal accents instead of glass inserts
Where the original doors used decorative glass as their visual focal point, the new doors use a row of seven diagonal, tapered metal accents down each panel instead, finished in a brushed tone that contrasts cleanly against the dark antique brown body. It's a distinctly modern approach to the same idea the old ironwork glass was going for, giving each door leaf visual texture and rhythm without relying on glass at all. A rectangular transom above the doors still brings in natural light to the entryway.
Security: a Ferco Roma lock on each leaf
Each door leaf is fitted with its own Ferco multipoint locking system, finished with a Roma-style plate that matches the door's dark hardware tone rather than standing out against it. A multipoint system engages the door at several points along its height from a single turn of the handle, distributing security across the full frame instead of relying on one strike point the way a standard deadbolt does, and having that same hardware on both leaves means the security standard is consistent across the full width of the entry, not concentrated on one side.
