Brick-to-Brick Installation
Full Removal to Studs
The existing window, frame, jambs and interior casing are removed to the stud opening. The opening is vacuum cleaned and protected with Blueskin membrane. The new window, supplied with brickmould and jamb extension, is shimmed and secured to the studs, insulated with low-expansion foam and sealed with red tape over the foam. New wood or snap-in vinyl interior casing and exterior capping complete the installation.

Brick-to-brick gives the most thorough envelope upgrade, but if the existing frame is structurally sound and well sealed, a retrofit may be suitable when the frame is sound, square and dry, and split-frame may be suitable for a vinyl insert when the jamb and casing can be preserved. The wrong method on the wrong opening is what causes problems.
