Frequently, yes. Pre-war Welland houses were built with wide, short openings that don't match modern stock sizing. Every unit is measured and manufactured to the actual opening rather than ordered off a size chart, which is why we template each floor separately on these homes.
Dain City is mostly post-war bungalow stock built for the shipyard and mill workforce, with original aluminum or first-generation vinyl units. The framing is generally sound, so these homes are good candidates for full-frame replacement without masonry work — the gain comes from triple-pane glass and proper air sealing.
It does. Older Welland brick near the canal has often shifted enough that the opening is out of square by a noticeable margin. We check every opening for plumb before ordering, and where a lintel has dropped we repair the masonry and reset the head before the window goes in, so the new unit isn't carrying load it was never designed for.
