Every insulated glass unit needs something holding the two panes apart at a fixed distance around the edge. For decades, that something was a metal bar, usually aluminum. Super Spacer, made by Edgetech, replaces that metal bar with a flexible silicone foam strip instead, and the material change is the entire reason it performs differently at the edge of your glass.
Why the edge of the glass matters more than people think
Metal conducts heat and cold far more readily than the glass and frame around it, which makes a metal spacer bar a direct thermal shortcut running around the entire perimeter of every window pane. That's exactly where condensation tends to form first on an older window, right along the visible edge, because that strip of metal is the coldest part of the glass assembly in winter. A warm-edge spacer like Super Spacer removes that metal shortcut entirely.

What it's actually made of
Super Spacer is a desiccant-filled silicone foam strip with pre-applied side adhesive, built as a dual-seal system: a structural acrylic adhesive on the inside seal and a separate outer seal for gas retention between the panes. According to Edgetech's own published specifications, the foam has a thermal conductivity of 0.15 W/mK and has been tested successfully across a temperature range from -15°C to 125°C, along with more than 100 individual EN1279 Part 2 and Part 3 test passes, the industry standard for insulating glass durability.
A detail worth knowing: Super Spacer doesn't come in one fixed color that shows through your glass. Edgetech manufactures it in grey, white, and black, and it's selected to take on the appearance of the window profile it's glazed into, so a white-framed window gets a white-reading spacer at the glass edge rather than a mismatched strip.
What Edgetech's own published figures actually claim
Per Edgetech's own manufacturer specifications, Super Spacer is reported to reduce window U-values by up to 0.2 W/m²K compared to conventional metal spacers, and the manufacturer reports a reduction in perimeter condensation of up to 70% under their own testing. These are the manufacturer's own reported figures under their test conditions, not a guaranteed real-world outcome for every installation, since actual performance depends on the full window assembly, not the spacer alone.
Durability: what "dual seal" is actually protecting against
The dual-seal design exists to solve two separate problems at once: keeping moisture out, and keeping the inert gas fill (where used) in. Edgetech's published data reports the material provides very good UV resistance, very good compression-set resistance (meaning it doesn't lose its shape and seal integrity under sustained pressure the way some materials do over time), and continuous vapour barrier protection intended to prevent the internal fogging that shows up as permanent haze between the panes on a failed seal.
